A sodium- and magnesium-led bicarbonate-chloride spring drawn at a hot 58.3 °C. Neutral in pH and lightly mineralized at about 1.1 g/kg dissolved solids, it carries the soft, soda-water character of the bicarbonate family with a chloride finish that holds heat well after the bath.

About

A city hotel a short walk from Beppu Station, with a full natural-spring bath setup across two floors. The first-floor indoor bath connects to a rock-rimmed open-air bath (rotenburo) with cedar woodwork overhead and maples and azaleas around the tub. The third floor has a second indoor bath plus a waterfall bath (utaseyu), where water drops from above for a massage effect. The two floors rotate daily between men's and women's use, so you get a different bath each visit. The water is slightly cloudy and smooth on the skin, and flows fresh from the source (kakenagashi).

75. Sea Wave Hotel, Beppu Stayed overnight. Hotel near the station. Based on the sign, higaeri is available. Inside there are two sections that alternate men/women daily: on the 3rd floor and on the 1st floor. Stamp available. On the 3rd floor there's one indoor bath. Clear, hot water. Very strange design choice with "photo wallpaper" of a waterfall on closed shutters in the bath area. The bath has an utaseyu with two streams. On the 1st floor there are two baths. Indoor bath again with "photo wallpaper" of a waterfall on closed shutters. Clear water, listed as 40°C. Outdoor bath in stone behind a fence with no view, but with "photo wallpaper" of a city (so instead of an actual view you get a weird photo of a city on all the walls), clear water, slightly cloudy, listed as 42°C. Unless you're going for stamps, between the strange "photo wallpaper" and the fairly standard baths, you can skip this one.
