About

Ochiairo sits where two rivers meet in the Amagi hills of Izu, in a building registered as a national tangible cultural heritage property since its founding in 1874. The communal baths come in three forms: a cave bath wrapped in steam, open-air rotenburo looking out over the Kano River and the surrounding mountains, and an indoor bath in a quieter setting. All run on free-flowing (kakenagashi) spring water. One section, Tengu no Yu (天狗の湯), operates as a mixed-bathing thermal area where swimwear is required. The sauna program is unusually strong for a ryokan, with five distinct rooms that have earned Saunachelin recognition three times. Most guest rooms also have their own private in-room onsen bath.
