A sodium- and magnesium-led bicarbonate-chloride spring in Beppu — the jūsō-sen (soda-water) style, soft on the skin, with a salty edge layered in from the chloride sub-type. Mildly alkaline and moderately mineralized at 1,900 mg/kg, it comes out of the well very faintly yellow but clear, and both tasteless and odorless. What sets it apart is metasilicic acid at 201.2 mg/kg — enough silica to leave a thin moisturizing film, which places it squarely in Japan's beauty-water family.

129. Kagaya, Beppu ★★ Visited for a day trip (higaeri). One of the three private baths is available, priced at ¥500 each. The day-trip hours are listed as 11:00~16:00. They stamp the Beppu Onsen-do stamp rally. They also stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu. 1. Private bath Rock. An indoor bath made of stone. The atmosphere is very cool, it feels like being in some kind of cave rather than a basement. The water is clear. Before dilution, the temperature is very hot. After dilution and after other visitors, it was 44-45. It is comfortable to breathe inside. The best bath of the three. 2. Private bath Open-air. A semi-open, balcony-type bath in stone. The water is clear, temperature 44-45. 3. Private rectangular bath Cypress. The largest of the three. The water is clear, temperature 44-45. In January there were citrus fruits in the bath. It is easy to breathe inside. The private baths for ¥500 on a day trip are very inexpensive. The best bath in the facility, Rock, is recommended, while the other two are a bit weaker. 02.05.2024 03.01.2026
