Sodium Bicarbonate-Chloride spring

A gentle simple thermal spring, weakly alkaline at pH 8.29 — soft on the skin, sitting in the Japanese beauty-water family thanks to its mild alkalinity. Lightly mineralized at 241 mg/kg of dissolved solids, it makes for an undemanding soak. The 29 °C source is a cold-mineral grade spring (under the 'low-temperature' class) reheated before bathing.

692. Dorogawa Onsen Visitor Center, Dorogawa Onsen, Nara ★ Dorogawa tourist center. Onsen for 800. Operating hours are 11:00-20:00 (except Wed). Modern building with fresh baths. If you go down from the backyard, you can walk through an atmospheric anime-like forest to a small shrine, Daishoudaigongensha. Photos of baths from the internet match. 1. Indoor bath with clear water, temperature around 42. Spacious room with an atmospheric echo. 2. Outdoor bath with no view. Clear water with sparse fine white limestone particles. Temperature around 41. Worth keeping in mind when visiting Dorogawa, especially given the limited number of higaeri onsens available in the village. 13.11.2025
