Water profile

Shin-aoyamaso Inn

Spring chemistry and what it does, with the research behind it.

SimpleSodium Carbonate-Bicarbonate spring

An alkaline simple thermal spring with a notably high pH of 9.5 — strong enough to give the unmistakable slippery, skin-smoothing feel of the Japanese beauty-water family. Dissolved solids are light at 170 mg/kg, but a faint hydrogen sulfide note and a fluoride content above the therapeutic-spring threshold give the water more character than the simple-thermal label suggests.

Good for

Smooth skin

Bicarbonate and alkalinity gently lift dead keratin while silica hydrates, leaving skin smooth. This is the basis of the beautifying-water (bijin-no-yu 美人の湯) reputation.

dry, rough skin

Recovery

Warmth and buoyancy lower stress markers and improve sleep; habitual bathing is linked to lower rates of depression.

fatigue, stress
