A rare carbonated spring that earns its name — fine bubbles cling to the skin the moment you enter. The wellhead is a cool 31.5 °C and free CO2 reaches 1,400 mg/kg, so bathers stay in long while the carbonation tingles. The base chemistry is a magnesium-sodium bicarbonate water, neutral pH and lightly mineralized, with a generous 172 mg/kg of metasilicic acid adding softness to the skin feel.

425. Lamune Onsen, Taketa, Oita (Nagayu Onsen) ★★ Onsen for ¥500. There is a private bath for ¥2000 (I did not use it). Opening hours are listed as 10:00 to 22:00. They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen stamp rally. The bath photos are from the internet, and they match. Inside there is a three-level bath. The water is cloudy, white, pale green, and the temperature is 38-39. It is very easy to breathe inside. When I went in, two old men were sleeping in the baths. When I sat down, after about 3-4 minutes I also started to get very drowsy and almost fell face-first into the water. I do not know whether it was just a coincidence or whether there is really some combination of factors that makes me relax so much in this onsen. The outdoor bath has clear carbonated water, and the temperature is cool. It is an unusual place in terms of design, the life inside, and the onsens themselves.
