About

Chalet Marunuma is a plain, self-catering ski lodge built right on the slope at 1,400 meters on Marunuma Kogen, with twenty simple tatami rooms. Guests bathe in a shared hot-spring bath, drawn from a spring found only on this mountain, open from mid-afternoon until the next morning. A separate day-use bath, Zazen Onsen (座禅温泉), with a sauna, runs afternoons in the base center building nearby. Rooms have no bath of their own, and there's no restaurant service beyond a free coffee and bread each morning, so most guests bring their own food. It's an old, lived-in kind of place, more mountain hut than polished ryokan, right at the edge of the slope for skiers who want to step straight out onto the run.
