Classification

Calcium-Sodium Sulfate-Bicarbonate spring

A simple thermal spring rising in Iwakubo, Kofu. At the wellhead the water is brown and turbid with a metallic taste from its iron content, and orange sediment forms on contact with air. Weakly alkaline and lightly mineralized at about 0.5 g/kg of dissolved solids, it makes for a gentle, undemanding soak.

542. Tsutsujigasaki Hot Spring and Pool, Kofu, Yamanashi Onsen for 470. Operating hours are listed as 14:00 to 20:00 (closed Mon). They stamp the Yamanashi 100 Onsen book. Bath photos are from the internet, roughly match — I visited in the evening. 1. Indoor area (separate). Breathing inside is tolerable. 1.1. Bubble bath. Clear water, temperature around 40. 1.2. Bath with clear water, temperature around 40-41. 2. Outdoor stone bath. Essentially partially indoors, with a greenhouse-like effect — stuffy. Clear water, temperature around 41. Both in the indoor bath and the greenhouse-like outdoor bath, there's a strange smell. It's not chemical or chlorine, not unpleasant exactly. But after a while in both spaces my eyes started to slightly sting. The effect went away immediately in the changing room. 11.05.2025
