Myoken Onsen Kawa no Onsen

A riverside wild bath (noyu, 野湯) in the Myoken Onsen area of Kagoshima's Shinkawa Gorge, where hot spring water rises right at the river's edge. The open-air bath (rotenburo, 露天風呂) is mixed (konyoku, 混浴), and bathing here puts you almost at water level with the river flowing past. The Myoken area has a long tradition of inns clustering along the Amori River, and this particular spot keeps things as natural and unadorned as it gets.
