Kussharoko-han Sunayu

On the sandy shore of Lake Kussharo, hot spring water seeps up through the beach sediment warm enough to touch. Dig a hole in the sand and you have your own open-air soak with the lake stretching out in front of you. The sodium bicarbonate water can reach close to 50°C in spots. In winter, whooper swans gather here because the spring keeps the water ice-free.
