About

Kansuitei Kozeniya (観水庭 こぜにや) sits in the middle of Tottori city, about five minutes on foot from the station, in one of Japan's few downtown hot-spring districts. The spring here was found in 1897 when locals were sinking a well for drinking water, and the ryokan draws from two wells on its own grounds, running the water kakenagashi (かけ流し), straight through without recirculation. The water is clear and feels smooth on the skin. The large communal bath has an octagonal tub at its center, and two indoor rooms finished in stone and hinoki cypress. The open-air bath looks onto a garden that shifts with the seasons. Lodging guests have access to two private baths at no extra charge, and the detached suite Hoden (宝殿) comes with its own spring bath in the room.
