A hot (80.9 °C) sodium sulfate-chloride spring with weakly alkaline pH 8.3 and a soft, slipper-on-the-skin feel. Metasilicic acid at 296.6 mg/kg leaves a thin silica film that visibly smooths the skin, while the sulfate body and saline edge give the water a quiet weight typical of a Kurokawa-area cert.

16. Okyakuya Ryokan, Kurokawa Onsen (pt.1) ★★ In December 2023, I stayed overnight and since then have visited several times for day trips (higaeri), although for day trips I always used the Daikan bath. The baths alternate between male and female. Located in the center of the village. In the winter season, when bamboo lanterns are hung in Kurokawa, the Okyakuya building looks especially bright in evening photos from the river side. Also, when passing to the Daikan bath during this period, there is a pleasant view of the river and lanterns from the outside corridor. In 2023, I booked a small single room with dinner and breakfast. The kaiseki meal was served in a separate room. Day trips are usually available from 10:30 to 19:00, although sometimes there is a day off during the week or reduced hours. It is part of the Kurokawa tegata (day pass). For day trips, baths with alternating male/female use are available: - Daikan or Gozen; - Himehada and Inishie. The Sato bath and private baths are only available to overnight guests. The ryokan is over 300 years old. The building has a pleasantly old atmosphere with a great wooden ryokan ambiance. The staff are consistently Japanese, service is good, and the attitude is warm. About the onsen: 1. Daikan. The corridor to the bath runs outside along the river side. In winter, when lanterns are hung over the river, it is very beautiful. The outdoor bath is stone, without a view - behind a fence. The water is clear, temperature ranges from 41.5 to 43°C depending on the spot. 26.12.2023 08.04.2025 28.12.2025

16. Okyakuya Ryokan, Kurokawa Onsen (pt.2) ★★ About the onsens: 2. Gozen. Indoor bath. The water is clear, temperature around 41-42°C. Photo of the bath is from the internet and matches the actual. 3. Inishie. Semi-open stone bath. Actually, there is no view. The water is clear, temperature around 41.5-43°C. 4. Himehada. Indoor bath. The water is clear, temperature around 41-42°C. 5. Sato. Semi-open stone bath. Actually no view - curtains and trees block it. There is a standing area with wooden beams. The water is clear, temperature around 41.5-43°C. 6. Private wooden bath Ichi. Available on a first-come, first-served basis. The water is clear. 7. Private bath Ni. Available on a first-come, first-served basis. The water is clear. Great ryokan. Service and staff are decent, atmosphere is pleasant, excellent location, various baths available. But the baths are very enclosed and without views. Recommended for overnight stays and day trips. 26.12.2023 08.04.2025 28.12.2025
