About

A day-use bathhouse in Fushimi, on Kyoto's southern edge, with no overnight stay. The water carries an official onsen-use permit, and the baths lean toward variety: an indoor carbonated bath and electric baths, an outdoor bath for men and a microbubble bath for women that the sento calls its "silk" bath, plus a 10°C cold bath said to be the first of its kind in Kyoto. The sauna side is built out just as well, with a men's tower sauna running automated loyly sessions every hour, a women's salt sauna, and a men's Finnish sauna. It's a neighborhood super-sento rather than a destination onsen, run as the Fushimi branch of the Gyokkoyu (玉光湯) chain. Expect a restaurant, a relaxation room, a kids' corner with toys and games, a wood deck lit up at night, and a small jizo statue placed for the neighborhood's health and happiness. Parking runs to about 180 spaces, so it's easy to reach by car.

300 (17). Hijirinone Onsen, Kyoto Super sento with tap water, 850-950 yen, on the outskirts of Kyoto. Listed hours are 08:00 to 24:00. They give a stamp for the 41 Super Sento of Kansai 24/25. Not actually an onsen, but they issue Toreco trading cards for this super sento. Has a barber shop, restaurant, massage, arcade games, and massage chairs. Bath photos from the internet, accurate. 1. Outdoor bath has three sections: main zone, sitting zone with water flow on the back, and lying zone. Clear water, temperature 41-42. Two TVs. 2. Indoor zone. Bearable to breathe, but very strong chlorine smell that makes it hard to relax — in the jet zones it even starts to sting the eyes. 2.1. Main bath with a bubbles zone, clear water, temperature 40-41. 2.2. Carbonated bath. Carbonation is light — didn't notice the effect right away. Clear water, temperature 39. The most comfortable indoor bath since the chlorine smell is least noticeable here. 2.3. Four lying jets, water temperature 40. 2.4. Two sitting jets, water temperature 40. 2.5. Four standing jets with a pull-up bar, water temperature 40. 2.6. Two electric baths. 2.7. Sauna. 2.8. Steam bath. 2.9. Cold bath. 2.10. Very cold bath in a transparent cube, temperature 10. Given the location, tap water, and strong chlorine smell — you can safely skip this one. The one unique thing is the cube cold bath at 10 degrees.
