A silver discount (age 65+, weekdays only, entry between 9:30 and 17:59) is 650 yen general and 600 yen for members. A sodium chloride spring — salty and heat-retaining. At the wellhead it reads pH 8.6, putting it on the alkaline side of Japan's beauty-water family with a soft feel on the skin. The water emerges gray and turbid, carries a slightly salty taste and a mineral-oil note, and evolves gas at the source — a distinctive well. Moderately mineralized at 2,483 mg/kg of dissolved solids.

About

Akarinoyu is a large day-use bathing complex with several indoor and outdoor baths, jet and electric baths, two kinds of sauna, and private ganbanyoku stone-bath rooms. The spring water is a clear, mildly salty sodium-chloride onsen that leaves the skin feeling smooth, and the cold plunge is filled with local natural groundwater called Iwashimizu (石清水). The outdoor baths look out on a bamboo grove said to be the setting of the old Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Taketori Monogatari), the story behind the name, and the grove is lit up after dark. Opened in 2019 next to Costco Kyoto Hachiman, it is built for a day trip rather than a stay: baths, a restaurant, and a rest lounge, with no rooms to stay in.

290. Taketori Onsen Akarinoyu, Kyoto Super sento with onsen water, 920-970 yen, on the outskirts of Kyoto. Listed hours are 09:30 to 00:30 Mon-Sat and 06:00 to 00:30 on Sundays. They give a stamp for the 41 Super Sento of Kansai 24/25. In the lobby, small sharks swim in an aquarium. Has a restaurant, massage, arcade games, yoga, chill-out zones, stone bath, and shuttle bus. Bath photos from the internet, accurate. 1. Outdoor zone. Two large TVs. 1.1. Main large bath, clear water, temperature 40. 1.2. Carbonated bath, clear water, temperature 37.5. 1.3. Three wooden barrels with clear water, temperature 37.5. 2. Indoor zone. Comfortable to breathe. 2.1. Silk bath with white water, temperature 39. 2.2. Bath with bags of oranges, clear and slightly cloudy water, temperature 40-41. This bath periodically changes to something different. 2.3. Jet zone with electric bath. 2.4. Cold bath. Steam sauna and infrared sauna available. A pleasant place, but not worth traveling this far specifically.
