A sodium-led chloride spring — classed under the old nomenclature as pure salt water (jun-shokuen-sen) — salty and good at retaining heat. With dissolved solids around 3,304 mg/kg it is moderately mineralized, and the water carries a faint yellow-brown tint at the source. Neutral in pH and gentle on the skin, it is a low-temperature source (31.5 °C) reheated for bathing.

A day-use bathhouse out on Wakayama Marina City, the man-made island with the theme park and the Kuroshio market. The indoor bath, the open-air bath and the sauna all face the yacht harbour and Wakaura (和歌浦) bay, and late afternoon is the popular hour, for the sunset over the water. The water is a sodium chloride spring drawn from 1,500 metres below the seabed: salty enough to leave a film on the skin, and slow to let you cool down afterwards. There is also a strong artificial carbonated bath, and a ganbanyoku (岩盤浴) room they call the nekorobi sauna (ねころびサウナ), heated stone slabs you simply lie down on.

504. Kishu Kuroshio Hot Spring, Wakayama ★ Super sento with onsen water for 1100, located 30-40 minutes by public transport from Wakayama station. Operating hours 11:00 to 23:00. They stamp the 88 Wakayama Onsens passport. They sell the 12 Wakayama Onsens stamp. Has a restaurant, massage, shop, and stone bath. Bath photos from the internet, matches reality. 1. Outdoor stone bath. Standing, there's a pleasant view of the bay and wharf, but a lattice fence gets in the way. Sitting in the water, the view disappears. Clear water, temperature 40. 2. Indoor zone. Breathing inside is fine. 2.1. Indoor bath with a panoramic view. Standing, you can see the parking lot, bay, and wharf. Sitting in the water, the view disappears due to frosted glass at the bottom. Clear water, temperature 40-41. 2.2. Three barrels with clear carbonated water. Temperature 38. 2.3. Sauna. Pleasant place, great vibes in the morning on a sunny day. The view while sitting in the baths could be better, but the standing view still leaves a good impression. 12.04.2025
