The outdoor bath here is twelve meters wide and looks straight across at the Yatsugatake range, open by day to shifting mountain views and by night to a highland sky full of stars. Indoors there is a warmer jacuzzi bath for finishing off, plus a Finnish-style sauna and a cold plunge. The spring water itself is mild and faintly acidic. Baths are separated by gender, and the women's side has its own powder room with individual seating. Terrace Tateshina is a resort hotel in the forest above Chino, and it opens its baths to day-use visitors as well as overnight guests.
