A municipal Beppu blend (Unsenji source plus others, sampled at a covered mixing-tank outlet) emerges hot at 64.1 °C as a simple thermal water, neutral and hypotonic. Total dissolved solids sit modestly at 0.764 g/kg with a faint sodium-chloride lean, so the water reads gentle rather than briny. The headline is silica — metasilicic acid at 159 mg/kg leaves the kind of fine film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother on the way out.

About

A hot spring where customers who use the cafe can bathe as a special benefit. People also gather aiming to meet the owner, who is known as a living encyclopedia of onsen culture. In a word, it is "the Luida's Tavern of the onsen world."

127. Cafe Takasaki & onsen, Beppu A cafe with a private onsen. The owner is clearly a fan of onsen culture - the house is filled with various onsen-related artifacts. The most interesting ones were of course the old spa passports (blue, foil, and a tiny ancient one). The owner reacted with great interest, we chatted through a translator. As I understood, the onsen is included with food at the cafe since there was no extra charge. They stamp both the Beppu onsen-do passport and the 88 Onsens of Kyushu booklet. The bath is in a separate room. Cozy, breathing is excellent. Water in the bath is clear, temperature hot+. Highly recommended for onsen enthusiasts. This place is unique in its own way.
