Chloride
Known good for
  • Warmingcold sensitivity
  • Cutsminor wounds
  • Recoveryfatigue, stress

Analyzed by the Wakayama Prefectural Environmental Health Research Center, the "Jotoyu No. 2" source is a sodium chloride spring. Hypotonic and moderately mineralized at 1,249 mg/kg of dissolved solids, it is a salty, heat-retaining water; the posting lists nerve pain, muscle pain, joint pain and poor circulation among its indications. For bathing the source is reheated to a comfortable temperature, and recirculation filtration plus a chlorine-based disinfectant are used for hygiene management.

About

A small inn on the Taiji coast, with a flower garden of roughly 4,500 square meters between the rooms and the water. Two baths: an open-air one (rotenburo, 露天風呂) on the ground floor, Sakinami-no-yu (岬波の湯), facing the sea with the Kumano mountains beyond it, and Dankai-no-yu (暖海の湯), a big indoor bath a floor up scented with hinoki (檜) cypress. The spring is sodium chloride, clear, faintly sulfurous and noticeably smooth on the skin. It stands next to Kujirahama Park in a town whose history is bound up with whaling, and dinner, unusually for a ryokan, is proper French.

648. Hana Irodori no Yado Kayuu, Taiji, Wakayama ★ Visited for day use at 1100 yen. Day use available from 15:00 to 21:00, but the rotenburo is accessible from 16:00. They stamp the 88 Onsen of Wakayama stamp book. They sell the 12 Onsen of Wakayama stamp book. The outdoor and indoor baths are in separate locations. Outdoor stone bath. The view of the bay and the opposite shore is only visible when standing — if you sit down the view disappears. Clear water, temperature 42.5. Indoor bath. Clear water, temperature 42. Breathing inside is fine. A solid cozy place, worth keeping in mind. 04.11.2025 05.11.2025
