Classification

Sodium Chloride-Bicarbonate spring

A sodium-leaning simple thermal spring drawn at 56 °C from a 150 m well on Beppu's seafront. Weakly alkaline at pH 8.2, it has the soft, slightly slippery feel of Japan's beauty-water family. Total dissolved solids sit at 968 mg/kg — just shy of the threshold that would push it into a named class — and the metasilicic acid is unusually generous at 192.6 mg/kg, leaving the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

95. Seikai, Beppu Hotel with onsen. Visited for higaeri, price 2500. Unlimited face towels and large towels in the changing room by the bath entrance. For higaeri you get access to baths on the 1st floor, but the signs mention some bath on the 8th floor (probably for hotel guests or private use). Everything is very high quality. Stamp available. 1. Indoor area. 1.1. Large main bath. Clear water, temperature is hot-. Comfortable to breathe. 1.2. Cold water bath. 1.3. Spacious, excellent sauna with a view of the outdoor bath area and the bay. 2. Outdoor area. 2.1. Outdoor bath with a seamless view of the bay. The viewing angle is wide — some pier infrastructure is visible on the sides, but the view is amazing. It's actually a plus that the floor is low — the water level feels higher and the immersion is deeper. Really cool. Clear water, temperature between warm and hot, so you can zone out with the view for a long time. 2.2. Jacuzzi with warm water and a bay view. 2.3. Loungers and chairs for zoning out with the bay view. Excellent place. Recommended for higaeri visits and/or staying overnight.
