The Kuchisakamoto No. 2 source is a municipally operated well in a mountain hamlet of Shizuoka City. A sodium bicarbonate spring of the classic jūsō-sen style, it emerges with a visible evolution of gas and a faint hydrogen-sulfide note. At pH 9.0 the water is alkaline, sitting in Japan's beauty-water family with a noticeably slippery feel on the skin. Moderate mineralization (1,188 mg/kg) plus metasilicic and metaboric acids round out a soft, smooth bath.

About

A small bath run by Shizuoka City, up in the mountains north of town. The spring comes out at 37.5°C, a clear and odourless sodium bicarbonate water, and the little outdoor tub takes it exactly as it comes, which is why people sit in this one for an hour rather than ten minutes. The indoor bath is much bigger and warmed. Once a year the hall upstairs hosts a village music concert, the Yamazato no Ongakukai (山里の音楽会).

273. Kuchisakamoto hot-spring baths, Shizuoka ★ A public onsen in the middle of nowhere, ¥300. Hours are listed as 9:30 to 16:00, except Wed. They stamp the 60+6 Shizuoka onsen stamp rally 24/25. In the booklet, the stamp rally is noted separately. It is part of some local stamp rally. The bath photos from the internet match. The rotenburo has clear water with fine lime deposits, temperature 39. The uchiyu has clear water, temperature 40. The place itself is pleasant, but the location is inconvenient, and it does not really seem worth going just for this onsen. 12.11.2024
