Kitahama OnsenSodium-Calcium-Magnesium Chloride-Bicarbonate spring
A hot (50.5 °C) sodium-calcium-magnesium chloride and bicarbonate spring rising in the Kitahama district of Beppu. Salty, heat-retaining chloride water layers with the softness of bicarbonate, and a weakly alkaline pH keeps it gentle on the skin. At 3,137 mg/kg of dissolved solids the water carries moderate body — enough mineralization to feel substantial without crossing into the hypersaline range. At the source it pours out colorless and clear, with a faint salty taste and no odor — a workaday but characteristically Beppu high-temperature spring.
