Sodium spring

A sodium-led bicarbonate spring with a chloride edge layered in, served as untreated free-flow water. The pH is neutral and the source water carries a faintly bitter note. A generous 231 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

115. Yumigahama Onsen, Beppu An old-school onsen for ¥200. Opening hours are listed as 06:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 22:30 (except the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month). They stamp the Beppu Onsendo seal (it is inside the changing room). No staff, no shower. The water is clear, temperature 47. The bath walls have rough defects, so it is better to lean your back against them carefully. Breathing inside is fine. 01.05.2024 04.04.2025 03.01.2026
