武雄温泉第5号源泉

Takeo Onsen Spring No. 5
Simple

A sodium-led alkaline simple thermal spring, hot at the wellhead (44.5 C). The chemistry leans on bicarbonate with a modest chloride and carbonate edge, giving the slippery, soft feel of Japan's beauty-water family. Mineralization is light at 713 mg/kg, so the water sits gently on the skin rather than coating it.

448. Takeo Onsen, Saga An onsen complex with several public and private baths in different buildings. Visited two indoor public baths, 500 yen each (didn't try the rotenburo or private baths). Operating hours for the main bath listed as 6:30 to 23:45, additional one from 6:30 to 21:30 (others have their own schedules but wide hours too). They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen book. At the entrance by the ticket machines, the current temperatures of each onsen are displayed. First main indoor onsen zone Motoyu. Claimed to be the oldest building in Japan still used as an active onsen facility. Old-school atmosphere, very pleasant to be in. Two baths with clear water that has a slight soapy feel. Temperature in one bath is 43, the other 45. The air inside is pleasant. Bath photos from the internet are accurate. Second additional indoor bath Houraiyu. The atmosphere is simpler than the main one. Clear water with a slight soapy feel. Temperature 43. Air inside is okay. A great old-school spot — hot water, few people in the morning, pleasant atmosphere. Recommended. 03/31/2025
