About
Kogashima-so (虹岳島荘) sits alone on the shore of Lake Suigetsu (水月湖), part of the Mikata Five Lakes in Fukui. The inn has both indoor and open-air baths fed by a free-flowing spring. The water feels noticeably smooth and slippery with a faint mineral scent. It is one of the few Fukui members of Nihon Hito wo Mamoru Kai (日本秘湯を守る会), the association of remote hot spring inns. The building is old and shows its age, but the spring draws repeat visitors, and the rooms look out over the lake.
