About

The baths draw water from Kumoi-no-yu (雲井の湯), the Kazawa Onsen spring about 4 km away. Each side has an open-air bath and two indoor baths; one of the indoor baths runs as kakenagashi (源泉かけ流し, undiluted free-flowing water). The water is clear and gentle, leaving skin soft after a soak. The outdoor baths close through the winter months. Rokumeikan traces its line to a Meiji-era inn at the old Kazawa hot spring that was destroyed in a large fire in the Taisho period; the rebuilt inn relocated to Shin-Kazawa Onsen and reopened under its current name. The annex Bankaitei (晩霞亭) occupies a farmhouse over a century old that was relocated and renovated.
