Kaikyo no Yu (海峡の湯) opened in 2020 to replace the two older communal baths that had long served Shimofuro, drawing water from both of those original sources: Oyu (大湯) and Shinyu (新湯). The three indoor baths split across the two springs. Two are milky white with a faint sulfur smell; the third runs nearly clear. All water is free-flowing kakenagashi, and the baths run hot enough that bathers often come out flushed red. There is no outdoor bath, but the bath hall has a window looking out over the Tsugaru Strait, with Hokkaido visible on clear days. A sauna built from Aomori hiba cedar sits alongside a cold plunge. Fishermen coming in from the morning catch are a common sight.
