Classification

Calcium-Sodium Sulfate spring

A calcium- and sodium-led sulfate spring with sulfate's quiet, mineral-rich body. Alkaline at the wellhead (pH 9.0), the water carries the slippery soft-on-skin feel that puts it in the Japanese 'beauty-water' family. It surfaces at 47 °C — faintly whitish and slightly turbid, with a soft oily note rather than the standard 'clear and odourless' default.

201. Zen-no-yu, Kawazu Visited for day-use bathing (listed hours 10:00 to 22:00, except Thursday). Admission 1000, towel provided. They stamp the Shizuoka 60 Onsen book. Indoor bath with clear water, temperature 40, breathing inside is fine. There's a stone steam sauna (they even show you instructions for it). Outdoor wooden bath, quite slippery. Clear water, temperature 44. Has a rugged mountain view, but if you get close you can see the road from the balcony, and you can hear passing cars. Nice place for a day-use visit in Kawazu, recommended.
