A bicarbonate spring carrying a balanced cation set of magnesium, sodium and calcium. Neutral pH and a moderately heavy 6,189 mg/kg of dissolved solids place it in the soft, skin-smoothing bicarbonate family that Japan calls the beauty-water tradition. The wellhead temperature of 30.9 °C makes it a cold-side spring that is reheated for bathing, and the water carries a faint metallic, slightly astringent edge on the tongue.

391. Kawanoeki Funagoya Koibotaru Onsenkan, Chikugo, Fukuoka Onsen for 600. Operating hours stated as 10:00 to 21:00 (closed Tuesdays). They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book. The park grounds have a restaurant, a market, and a foot bath. Bath photos from the internet match reality. 1. Outdoor zone. No view, but it's not needed here — the location itself looks unusual. 1.1. Bath with cloudy brownish-white water, slightly carbonated (barely noticeable). Temperature 37-38. 1.2. Bath on the second level with cloudy brownish-white water. Temperature 36-37. 1.3. Shallow bath with the most concentrated color, effectively fits one person. Temperature 36-37. 1.4. Bath in the corner with old-timers, water color less saturated than the rest. 2. Indoor bath with cloudy brownish-white water, temperature 38. Breathing is good. An unusual cool place, but due to the low water temperature in the outdoor baths, it's quite chilly in winter. Very popular spot with the elderly.
