RiverShiki no Yu is a day-use bathhouse with two open-air baths, one roofed and one open to the sky, and no indoor bath at all. The water comes straight from its own spring at the point where the Kinugawa and Torobu rivers meet, about 720 meters up in the Nikko mountains, and flows kakenagashi rather than recirculated. It's alkaline and clear, with a faint sulfur smell and a smooth, slightly silky feel on the skin. Washing is outdoors too, at a few shower taps, and there's a rest room to sit in afterward. Reviewers say weekdays are often quiet enough to feel like a private bath.

Kurobu Onsen Motoyu Shiki no Yu. Season - August 2025. Small sulfuric higaeri onsen near the dam north of Nikko for 700 yen. Nature, rotenburo, smell of sulfur and earth. Two baths, 44 and 39 degrees. Recommended if you're passing through. Notable for the original bamboo jaguchi (onsen tap).
