About

Oyado Kinkiyu sits in Kawayu Onsen (川湯温泉), a volcanic spring town in eastern Hokkaido. The bath hall runs on a two-floor layout: a semi-open-air bath on the ground floor and an indoor bath upstairs, with pools kept at different temperatures so you can move between them. All pools are fed directly from the source with no recirculation. The water is a strongly acidic sulfur spring that occasionally turns milky white in the tubs, and has been used as a therapeutic bath for over a century. The building has a distinctly retro feel, accumulated over decades of operation.
