Kamenoko Onsen

384. Kamenoko Onsen, Kikuchi, Kumamoto ★★ An old-school onsen for ¥300. Opening hours are listed as 11:00 to 22:00 (except Tue). They stamp the Kyushu 88 Onsen stamp rally. The staff are a nice elderly owner and his granddaughter. There was a little story here that I wrote about earlier. When I was leaving, the old man asked where I was from. After I answered, he gave me a sweet potato as a gift (some onsen steam them). My return matryoshka doll caused a stir. The granddaughter was delighted, first she took the matryoshka apart, then asked if she could take a photo of it. I said, it was a gift. Then she asked again, and the old man told her it was a present. The elderly male guests joined in right away too, although in the changing room they had shown interest but were too shy to ask. Inside there is an old-style bath with clear water, temperature 41.5. It is easy to breathe inside. Outside there is a small stone bath in a greenhouse-like room, the water is clear. Temperature 39.5. Easy to breathe. It is impossible not to recommend this place after such a warm welcome and reception. 10.01.2025
