About

Taikiyu Showa is a large day bathhouse in urban Kushiro, built as a full-scale super-sento in 2002 and later relicensed as a regular public bath, though the scale hasn't changed. The water is genuine source water, a salty chloride spring that leaves a light film on the skin said to help it hold moisture afterward. Bathing is spread across a few zones: an indoor bath with a jet bath, a semi-outdoor dry sauna with a cold plunge, and an outdoor rotenburo next to a Finnish-style sauna. A separate paid rooftop floor, open to men only, adds an auto-loyly sauna, a wood-stove sauna, and its own cold and neutral baths.
