Tominoyu

358. Tominoyu, Kirishima, Kagoshima Old-school onsen for 420 yen. Operating hours listed as 09:00 to 22:00 (closed Mondays). They stamp the 88 Onsen of Kyushu book. It was part of an online achievement for Kirishima (I didn't participate — the app wouldn't even install on my Google account). The owner is a very nice old man who first gave me a bamboo cup from the shop, and in return for my matryoshka — two more wooden toys. As I understood it, the wooden items sold in his shop are handmade by him or someone local. Photos of the baths from the internet match. Inside: two baths with clear brown, slightly cloudy water. One bath is temperature around 41.5, the second around 44. There's a sauna and cold bath. With such a warm reception, how could I not recommend this place? It was wonderful of course.
