A simple thermal spring taken from the outlet of a storage tank that pools several of Beppu's municipal wellheads, so what reaches the bath is a blend rather than one well. Neutral and hypotonic, it is lightly mineralized and correspondingly gentle on the body — sodium leads the cations, with chloride and bicarbonate sharing the anion side. The standout figure is metasilicic acid at 159 mg/kg, generous enough to leave the thin silica film that puts this water in Japan's beauty-water family.
