About

The onsen wing at THE CLUB golf village pairs a black-toned, modern indoor bath with a wide rotenburo outside, where concrete and wood decking meet. In front of the sauna sits an unusually large, spherical cold-plunge pool, and there are deck chairs out on the deck for lounging in the open air afterward. The water is faintly salty; locally the bath goes by the name Akima Onsen's Albatoro-yu (秋間温泉「あるばとろ湯」), apparently a play on the golf term albatross. The bath belongs to a private-membership golf resort's clubhouse and is built mainly around overnight golf stays; some guests book a room the night before a competition just for the sauna. Day visitors can get in through the separate, reservation-based THE CLUB SPA wing, but the main clubhouse bath itself is for overnight guests only.

Continuing to explore the onsens of Gunma. This time a rather unusual, stylish place — The Club. A hotel with onsen right near Takasaki city, with wa-modern design and beautiful golf courses around. The water here comes from their own source — Akima Onsen. The rotenburo has no view but is very stylishly done with lighting, wood, and concrete. The highlight — a spherical sauna in the center, very unusual. Plus another sauna where, unusually, you can actually pour water on the stones. Second highlight — first time seeing this — all-you-can-drink milk, sports drinks, and tea. Plus ice cream. Two baths at 42 degrees, two saunas, two mizuburo at 14 degrees.
