Hoshino Resorts KAI Nikko sits on the shore of Lake Chuzenji, in the mountains above Nikko. The public bath is a simple indoor-and-outdoor pair rather than a wide range of tubs, and staff can arrange a private bath if needed. The water itself is mild and plain, the kind bathers describe as leaving their skin smooth after a long soak. The building dates back to the 1980s and was later renovated in a traditional style, with wood details and tatami rooms, and some rooms look out over the lake toward the mountains beyond.
