Sodium Chloride-Bicarbonate spring

A sodium-led chloride-bicarbonate spring served from a 39.5 °C self-flowing well. Weakly alkaline (pH 8.0 at the source, 8.17 in the lab) and softly mineralized at about 1,020 mg/kg, it sits squarely in the Japanese 'beauty-water' family — chloride lays down a heat-retaining film while the bicarbonate sub-type adds a smoother, almost soda-like finish. The cert notes a pale yellow tint with fine suspended matter at the wellhead.

522. まほらの湯, Fujikawa, Yamanashi ★ Onsen for 700 (500 for locals). Operating hours are listed as 10:00 to 21:00 (closed Tue). They stamp the Yamanashi 100 Onsen book, but the stamp is almost completely worn out. There are two bath sets — Rock bath and Brick bath — which alternate between men/women weekly. I got the Brick bath. Bath photos are from the internet, match the real thing. 1. Indoor area. Breathing inside is fine. 1.1. Large bath. Clear water with a yellowish tint, temperature around 41-42. 1.2. Round bath. Clear water with a brownish tint, temperature around 40. 1.3. Bubble bath. Clear water with a brownish tint, temperature around 40. 1.4. Three jet loungers. 1.5. Sauna. 1.6. Cold bath. 2. Outdoor area. 2.1. Round bath. Clear water with a brownish tint, temperature around 40. 2.2. Sauna. 2.3. Barrel with cold water. Pleasant place with interesting water, worth keeping in mind. 10.05.2025
