Kamihoroso sits on the slopes of Tokachidake at about 1,200 meters, looking down over the Furano basin. The large indoor bath is built entirely of wood, with tubs cut from yew, and the acidic spring water runs straight from the source rather than being recirculated. There's an outdoor bath too; guests who've stayed in winter single it out as the best part of a visit, soaking with snow all around. Day-use bathing is available on top of overnight stays, and the kitchen leans on local Furano beef and Hokkaido rice. Up at that elevation, the night sky and the sea of clouds over the basin are as much a reason to come as the water itself.
