About
Hirasawaya sits in the Nakanosawa Onsen (中ノ沢温泉) hot spring district of Fukushima, which traces its history back about 400 years. The water is a strongly acidic sulfur spring that runs milky white and flows fresh without recirculation (kakenagashi, 源泉掛け流し). There are gender-separated indoor baths open around the clock, a women-only outdoor bath, and the only mixed-gender outdoor bath (konyoku rotenburo, 混浴露天風呂) in the whole Nakanosawa Onsen area. The inn deliberately keeps that mixed-bathing custom alive from the Showa era. Inside, the ryokan has the worn, unhurried feel of that same period.
