Ryusenji Onsen is an alkaline simple thermal spring at pH 9.25 — alkaline enough to give the slippery, soap-like feel that places it squarely in Japan's beauty-water family. Dissolved solids come to only 333.6 mg/kg, so the water is lightly mineralized and gentle on the body, led by sodium and chloride with small amounts of metasilicic acid and fluoride. The posted analysis records the source itself at 33.2 °C and the water at the public bathing point at 40 °C.

About

A large super-sento (スーパー銭湯) in Nagoya with 13 types of baths, including a wide indoor carbonated pool and outdoor rotenburo (露天風呂) with views of the city lights at night. The alkaline water is smooth on the skin after soaking. The Ryusenjinoyu (竜泉寺の湯) chain calls itself the originator of the super-sento format in Japan, and its Moriyama flagship went through a major renovation in late 2024. A separate-admission ganbanyoku (岩盤浴) and lounge area called Forest Villa is available for those who want to stay longer.

833. Ryusenjinoyu, Nagoya, Aichi ★★ A super sento with onsen water, ¥750-950 depending on the time and day of the week. The stated hours are 06:00 to 02:30. There is a diner, a rest area, massage, a shop, massage chairs, and a place to stay overnight. There are ganbanyoku. Wellnestyle Nagoya goshuin are issued for the onsen. The bath photos are from the internet, and they match. I visited on a weekend evening, and as expected it was super prime time, with far too many people. The visitors were Japanese, I do not remember seeing any foreigners. The water in all the baths except the silk bath was clear, and it smelled very strongly of chlorine, to the point that in the indoor area it even stung my eyes toward the end. About the baths: 1. Outdoor area. The view at night is really amazing, over the city and the industrial zone, and you can see the stadium. There are trees growing in small patches along the edges, but the view is still gorgeous. If you look at the outdoor area, it is important to understand that the infinity baths in the photos at the very edge are not baths, but safety boundary areas with a thin layer of water, and you are not allowed to enter them. 1.1. Lower infinity bath, the one in front of the "infinity safety area". There is a place to lie down. Temperature 41.5. 1.2. Infinity silk bath. Temperature 42. 1.3. Small infinity bath on the upper level. Temperature 40. 1.4. Foaming small infinity bath on the upper level. Temperature 40. 1.5. Six barrels on the upper level. Temperature 40. 1.6. Sauna. 1.7. Cold bath. 2. Indoor area. It was tolerable to breathe, but it smelled very strongly of chlorine. 2.1. Main bath. Temperature 38.5. 2.2. Jet area for four. Temperature 40. 2.3. Electric area for three. Temperature 40. 2.4. Bath with three individual zones. Temperature 43.5. 2.5. Cool bath. Temperature 35. 2.6. Children's shallow bath with a TV and cartoons. Temperature 38. 2.7. Sauna. 2.8. Cold bubbling bath. Temperature 16. 2.9. Cold bath. Temperature 9. It took me a very long time to decide on a rating for this place. On the one hand, I would not say I was satisfied or really enjoyed it because of the very strong chlorine smell and the huge number of people. On the other hand, in terms of the view, the number of baths, and the variety of baths, the place is of course very impressive. In the end, I recommend visiting, but definitely not at prime time. 07.03.2026
