About
Sitting right on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko), this hotel has both a communal indoor bath and an open-air rotenburo, plus a private outdoor bath you can book at the front desk. The views from the baths take in Mount Fuji, which is especially striking in the morning. The hotel has a relaxed, boutique feel rather than a big-chain atmosphere.
191. Mizno Hotel, Kawaguchiko
Stayed overnight. Hotel with onsen on Lake Kawaguchiko with Fuji views from both the hotel locations and the onsens. It was cloudy during my visit, but I could objectively assess the viewing angle. A Japanese owner inspired by Western culture created this fusion hotel mixing European and Japanese styles. The result is very unique — the lobby has a pleasant atmosphere, interesting library (they even have the Tokyo Toilet book). For food there are two options — a Japanese set or French fusion. I went with the latter. They made a double dinner for one without any issues. I really enjoyed the food — they serve in a dining area with a Fuji view (some seats inside, some on a balcony). Room is like a modern hotel with a balcony and Fuji view. Good service.
In the evening I booked a private bath for 5500. It can only be reserved in a slot after check-in — early morning the next day is unavailable. The bath is on the top floor with a great view of the lake and mountain (if it's visible that day). Old-school music plays (fits the fusion atmosphere perfectly), and they set out drinks before you arrive (you can make it a romantic hour with some wine). Clear water, hot temperature.
Outdoor and indoor public baths with clear water, hot temperature. Indoor bath is comfortable to breathe in. The indoor bath is partially behind frosted glass, which worsens the view. The outdoor bath is very small, but with a direct Fuji view. There's a sauna.
Very cool and unique place. Recommendable if you want to diversify the Japanese ryokan runs but want something with its own uniqueness rather than just a modern hotel — this is an excellent spot. For a romantic theme — also works great. But keep in mind that the onsens are the hotel's weak point, and I'd definitely book the private bath here regardless (for private baths it's really great and balances out the overall onsen rating). Overall I really liked this place, nice to remember it.
