A gentle simple thermal spring fed by Beppu's municipally owned Unsenji source and others. Neutral and hypotonic, it is only lightly mineralized at 0.76 g/kg of dissolved solids, so the water feels soft rather than assertive. What lifts it is metasilicic acid at 159 mg/kg — enough to leave the thin silica film that places this water in Japan's beauty-water family. The sample was drawn not at the wellhead but at the outlet of the holding tank, where the city's sources are blended before delivery.
