About

A plain, no-frills bathhouse in the Hachimantai highlands of Akita. The spring is sulfur water, run fresh without recirculation, into separate indoor baths for men and women. There are no washing facilities or shampoo, so you come purely to soak. Two ondol (温床) heated-floor huts sit alongside for resting after your bath. The place has historically operated as a 湯治場 (yujiba), a slow-cure therapeutic stay spot, and is only open seasonally. As of 2025 it has been closed with no confirmed reopening date.
