三段壁足湯さんだんべきあしゆ
Free. 9:00-16:30. Closed when it rains (the hot-water feed is switched off). No regular closing days, with an occasional temporary closure in mid-December.
Uses natural hot spring water
On-site or nearby parking available
A free footbath up on the clifftop at Sandanbeki in Shirahama, beside the entrance to the show cave, where you sit with your feet in hot water and the Pacific drops away sixty metres below you. The water is piped from the Tomyodai (燈明台) source. Time it for late afternoon and you get the sun going down over the sea. It runs in fair weather only: when it rains they shut the hot water off. The cave underneath (a separate, paid attraction) is where the Kumano navy is said to have hidden its boats.
