About

Hiratsuru sits right on the Ago Bay coastline, one of the rare ryokan in Atami built seaward of the main road. The large communal bath has separate indoor and outdoor sections, each running kakenagashi (continuously flowing fresh spring water) from different sources. The water comes out clear and slightly salty, and leaves skin noticeably smooth. The private open-air bath, Shiosaido (潮彩), is a small infinity-style tub with the sea directly below it. The inn goes back to 1937, when the founding family started as a fishmonger; the third generation now runs it as a seafood ryokan and day-use onsen.
