A bicarbonate spring carrying sodium, magnesium, and calcium, and also a carbon-dioxide-bearing source. The bicarbonate character gives it a soft, skin-smoothing feel of the Japanese beauty-water family. The certificate lists cuts, poor peripheral circulation, sensitivity to cold, and dry skin among its spring-specific bathing indications.

497. Yamazatonoyu, Oita ★ Onsen with carbonated water for 600. Operating hours 09:00 to 18:00 (closed Tue and Wed). They stamp the 88 Kyushu Onsens passport. Located at the edge of the prefecture. Two indoor baths with clear water. The water is very heavily carbonated. Temperature of one bath is 36-37, the other 37-39. Breathing inside is good, smell of sulfurous clay. The place hooked me with both the water and the remote countryside atmosphere. If you're passing by — worth keeping in mind. 07.04.2025
