The outdoor baths here are shaped like large lacquer bowls (owan-no-yu, おわんの湯), a nod to Yamanaka's lacquerware tradition. There are two of them, one called the red bath and one the black, and they swap between men and women overnight. Indoor baths and a drinking spring round out the bathing options. Top-floor rooms have private rotenburo and sauna on the terrace, with mountain views from all rooms across the seasons.
