A calcium-and-sodium-led bicarbonate spring layered with chloride and sulfate sub-types — the classic Japanese bicarbonate style, with a faintly salty edge and quiet sulfate body. Weakly alkaline and soft on the skin, it sits in the established beauty-water family. A generous 140.5 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards. Sampled at the bath inlet rather than the wellhead.

About

Borawazawa is a small, free communal bath inside a fishing port on Hachijojima's Sueyoshi coast, said locally to be the island's oldest hot spring. There's no attendant; you press a hand counter at the entrance to log your visit, then step into one modest tub built for about seven or eight people, fed by two shower-equipped washing spots (soap and shampoo aren't allowed). The water is colorless and odorless, and can run on the cool side depending on the day's flow; mineral staining on the walls shows how strong it is. The port is a short walk from Shiokawa Beach, a well-known surf break, so surfers rinsing off after a session share the tub with local regulars.

Concrete bath, spacious and deep, sitting in it the water comes up to your chin. A pipe feeds fresh water with bubbles into it. No soap, there are lockers, hot water, and a standard shower. Drink vending machine but no milk. Top-tier experience, especially the location in a very quiet fishing port.
