47. Funaoka Onsen, Kyoto A century-old sento in Kyoto. The atmosphere is pleasant, inside it's a refined old-school vibe. Visited around 17-18 on a Monday during cherry blossom season — there was a decent crowd, but everyone had enough space and it was comfortable. Old-timers present, a few foreigners too. Baths: 1. One large bath with three sections: - A very comfortable two-person jet zone, probably the most comfortable I've encountered. You can properly brace your elbows on the railings, lock yourself in (so you don't get "washed away"), and fully relax; - A large common area; - An electric bath section. Temperature slightly below hot. 2. A hot+ small bath with bubbles. 3. A hot+ small regular bath. 4. A small wooden bath with mild temperature. 5. A separate weird 1x1 meter bath with water pouring from above and a button on the wall. If you press the button, nothing happens. Temperature same as the main bath. 6. An outdoor hot stone bath. 7. An outdoor cold stone bath. There's also a sauna. The water is tap water, clear. There's a slight smell from the water, but I wouldn't call it chlorine. Breathing in the indoor baths is fine. Visit costs 490. Shampoo/body wash for purchase at 100 per item. Small towel 200. Hair dryer is paid. Definitely recommended when visiting Kyoto, especially for old-school lovers.
