Mogamiya Ryokan sits in Kamazaki Onsen (鎌先温泉), a hot spring area in Miyagi with over six centuries of history known locally as the healing spring of Oshu. The water runs brown and cloudy, uncut and uncirculated, and stays on the cooler side, so most guests linger longer than usual and warm through well after leaving the bath. Two indoor baths, Sanpo-no-yu (三宝の湯) and Toko-no-yu (東光の湯), rotate between men and women; there is also a reservable private bath, Wako-no-yu (和光の湯), shaped like a boat. The ryokan is a member of Nihon Hito wo Mamoru Kai (日本秘湯を守る会), the association of remote traditional inns, and the building retains an Edo-era character with pure Japanese-style rooms.
